Nike OneBox — Rethinking the Traditional Shoebox
Packaging Innovation | Circular Design | Waste Reduction | Product Development
OneBox started with a simple question: Why ship a shoebox inside another box?
I helped develop Nike's OneBox concept, rethinking traditional footwear packaging to eliminate the need for an additional shipping box and unnecessary materials. The challenge was creating a single package that could protect a wide range of footwear through distribution while maintaining Nike's standards for product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer experience.
The process involved extensive research, design development, testing, and collaboration across teams to turn a simple idea into a scalable packaging solution.
The result: 51% less packaging waste for single-pair online orders compared with traditional packaging. OneBox was designed to accommodate nearly any Nike shoe, eliminating the outer shipping box and reducing the materials required to deliver footwear directly to customers.
It's a great example of how questioning an established process, then working through the technical and operational details, can turn a relatively simple idea into meaningful change at scale.
